Summary: The Titleist TSR3 and TSR2 drivers performed similarly for me. The TSR2 is made to be more forgiving but I was able to dial in my errant drives better with the adjustable sole weight of the TSR3. They both have ample distance and feel and sound great.

How I Tested

On the course: I’ve had the TSR3 and TSR2 drivers for a couple of months. I played multiple rounds with both prior to writing this review. And, a few rounds with the TSR3 since writing this review.

On the range: One solid range session where my swing was good to go. The launch monitor data you see below was taken from that session.

Are there big differences between the TSR2 & TSR3 drivers?

Nope, not in my experience. The TSR3 obviously has the adjustable sole weight for more shot shaping and trajectory refinement. But, they played similarly on the course for me.

Looks – A Draw

Titleist goes for simple, sleek, and elegant in all their clubs, especially their drivers. (They hit the mark every time) The TSR3 & TSR2 have the identical shiny black color and lack of graphics. Their head shape is a little different and the TSR2 sits a closed at address.

Sound/Feel – A Draw

They both feel springy, yet solid. The sound is muted and solid – just the way I like it. Among the best I’ve tested in the past year.

Forgiveness – Possibly a slight nod to the TSR2

The TSR2 is built to be more forgiving, but the adjustable sole weight for the TSR3 evened the score for me both on the course and on the range. I had way more playable drives than I deserved from both of them. They’re 1 and 1a, and I’m not sure which is which.

Distance – A Draw

Carry and total distance were within 2-3 yards in my testing. I don’t consider that to be “longer” for a driver.

Flight/ Playability – Nod goes to the TSR3 thanks to the adjustability

My launch and ball flight are lower with both drivers than my standard launch and trajectory. I used the HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue stiff shaft which is a low launch – low trajectory shaft.

Adjustability – TSR3

The movable sole weight helped tame my duck hooks and kept me playable during my rounds. Also, gave me straighter shots on the range during testing.

Titleist TSR3 Driver

The TSR3 is a mid-launch low spin driver with a movable sole weight and is made for consistent ball strikers who want to fine-tune their ball flight.

Titleist TSR2 Driver

The TSR2 is a high launch low spin driver meant to help golfers with less consistent swings hit the ball higher and farther on more of the face. (It’s more forgiving)

Testing the TSR2 & TSR3 Drivers

I got these drivers at the same time and began testing immediately on the course and at the range. Unfortunately, the shafts included with the drivers didn’t fit me well at all. I couldn’t adjust my swing consistently to produce good drives. (Paired with the fact that I was in a driving funk)

I ordered the shaft you see above – Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue stiff flex – then went to work in earnest.

I played multiple rounds with both drivers, but had three rounds where I hit the TSR3 for 9 holes, then hit the TSR2 for 9 holes – alternating which driver I started with for each round.

Truth be told, the performance was about the same for me. My driver swing was mostly sideways during my entire testing. So, neither of them got my best stuff…to put it mildly.

They both had to do their level best to keep me somewhere around the fairway and playable. Only rarely did I connect with a decent swing.

Though the TSR2 is built to be more forgiving, the TSR3 did its share of rescue work for me thanks to the adjustable sole weight.

Final Verdict on Our Titleist TSR2 Driver vs TSR3 Comparison

I wish my swing had been humming along better, but it wasn’t. So, I mostly got to experience how each driver saved my mediocre (and worse) swings.

Which driver would I getif I were coming out of my pocket?
The TSR3 – which was a surprise for me since I value forgiveness above all.

But, I got fitted at PGA Tour Superstore and the correct shaft paired with the movable sole weight dialed my drives into the fairway more consistently. (This may not be the case for you)

So…My#1 suggestionis to test both clubs before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage ofGlobal Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
